‘Thoranai’ team confident of attracting the masses

hi friends,

‘Thoranai’ team confident of attracting the masses

With ‘Thoranai,’ starring Vishal and Shriya Saran, all set to hit the screens next week, the team is confident that the strong script and fast-paced storyline will be the key factors in propelling the response to the movie.

The movie promises to entertain the audience with a right mix of action, sentiment and comedy. “It satisfies all the yardsticks of ‘commercial’ movie. I am sure Tamil audience will love it,” says its director Saba Ayyappan, who makes his debut as a director.

The bi-lingual ‘Thoranai’ is also being made in Telugu and set for release on the same day. Saba Ayyappan is excited about the venture, which he hopes will be an ideal launch-pad for his career. “I hail from a small hamlet near Tirunelveli. I entered the film industry with hopes of becoming an actor. But now, I have no regrets,” he says.

He has acted in movies like ‘Ananda Poongaatre’ and Charlie Chaplin until a chance to be an assistant director came his way. Having worked with directors such as Viji and Mouli in ‘Alli Thantha Vaanam,’ ‘Nala Damayanthi’ and ‘Pammal K. Sambandam,’ Saba Ayyappan believes humour element is an integral part of any movie. “Comedy makes a movie entertaining and action paces up the story. I want my audience to be entertained and feel the money spent on the movie ticket is worth every penny.”

Vishal says the movie’s script is strong enough to attract the masses. Like his last movie ‘Satyam,’ the megaphone for this is wielded by debutant. The same is the case for his next movie ‘Theeradha Vilaiyaatu Pillai.’

“It has got nothing to do with my personal liking. I picked the scripts that appealed to me and they happen to come from new directors. I am confident that my next movie will also shape well under the direction of a debutant,” he says. Successes of his earlier movies that were dubbed in Telugu have prompted him to make this movie too in Telugu. “I thought this movie will suit the taste of both the audience and will also expand my market in Telugu film industry.”

hi friends,

Putting rumours to rest, actor Vishal on Monday made it amply clear that there had been no dispute between him and Ayyappan, the director of Thoranai. At a recent press conference, the star said, “There is a difference between involvement and interference. If you compel somebody to do something, then that becomes interference. I involve myself in my movies but I ensure that my involvement doesn’t become interference. In fact, there were
rumours
that I even attacked the director physically. But there is no truth in such rumours.”
Ayyappan also made it clear that there were no disputes between him and the star. “Vishal does not have the time to fight with the villain. Where does he have the time to fight with me,” he smiled.

Answering a series of questions, the actor said, “This movie will be an acid test for me. Usually, I’ve met the media after successes. This time, however, that’s not the case. This does not mean I regret doing Sathyam.”

The actor narrated an incident from the past in reply to a question on how his appearance had changed now, from the time he had acted in Chellame. “When I began acting, one producer said, ‘Intha moonjiya vachitu yaaravathu padam pannuvangala?’ (Will anyone make a film with a person with such a face?). I stood in front of the mirror and told myself, ‘do your work
right’. After the success of my films, the same producer sought dates from me. I again stood in front of the mirror and smiled. I told myself that I was on the right track.”

On rumours that a few heroines had rejected the offer to act in his next project Theeratha Vilaayatu Pillai, the actor said, “The cast itself hasn’t been decided yet. However, Shriya will be one of the three lead actresses. Nothing else has been decided.”

Vishal’s success mantra

hi friends,

When this dark and handsome hero entered the film scene with A.R. Gandhikrishna’s Chellame, everyone, including industry experts and audiences, sensed the arrival of an unusual hero. Vishal definitely did not share an identity with any of his industry counterparts. He was tall, dark and handsome; above all the hero traits, there was an easy charm and a down-to-earth quality in his personality that appealed to his fans and audiences. As his successive films like Tamirabharani, Malakottai and Satyam became hits, gradually, Vishal’s individualistic style too came to the fore. At one time, he was compared with Ilayathalapathy Vijay for the commercial formula he used in his films. What is Vishal’s take on his success as a trend-setting hero?

“I don’t want to offer competition to any hero. I have a style of my own and my goal is to satisfy both young and adult audiences alike,” says Vishal. On films and formulae, he says, "Heroism will definitely succeed; but there has to be a strong script to back the macho qualities of a winning hero. My upcoming film Thoranai has made use of the above mantra and it will surely be a top grosser.”

Let us wait and see if Vishal's expectations come true in Thoranai.

Vishal 's Interview to SIFY

hi friends,

Vishal 's Interview to SIFY

Vishal’s next film Thoranai gets ready for release. This bilingual (Pista in Telugu), a mass masala family entertainer directed by debutant Saba Iyyapan has music by Mani Sharma. Vishal, in his usual cheerful mood came in casually dressed as he met the press on Monday (May 11) at Green Park Hotel in Chennai.

A transcript of the press meet

You have always been linked with all your heroines?

Nowthere is a rumour that you are having an affair with Shriya? Please comment?
We are good friends. Like all my so called previous affairs, which proved to be wrong, this one will also bite the dust after release.

All directors who have worked with you say, that you interfere too much in the making of your films?

There is a difference between involvement and interference. I am a team player and put my thought across to my directors be it scenes, action, costumes or songs. This has been always misinterpreted as interference. Please remember that I have worked as assistant directors in all my eight films.

There was news that you slapped director Saba Iyappan on the sets? Pl comment?

Why should I slap him? There was no need for it. It’s all wrong reporting

Director Tarun Gopi who directed Thimiru recently alleged that you never paid him?

I am not the producer or financier of Thimiru. I was just the hero of the film and I can’t figure out why Tarun Gopi came out with such a statement after such a long time. He could have said it at that time.

It seems that you are not getting heroines for your next film Theerathu Vilayadu Pillai?

Shriya is already fixed and the other two will be confirmed soon.

Have you looked at the mirror post Chellamay and now? Do you find any difference?

After Chellamay released, a producer mocked at my looks and said “How can people make films with such a guy?” I looked into the mirror at that time and thought that I should ignore such remarks and do my work. After I had two consecutive hits, the same producer came to my office asking for my dates. I once again looked at the mirror and smiled.

So, did you give him dates?

(Smiles) No I didn’t but it wasn’t deliberate as my call sheets are full.

Why do you think was the reason for Sathyam debacle?
I don’t do any post mortem of my films. Sathyam was very close to my heart and will remain to be so.

Why do you prefer debutant directors to top commercial directors for all your upcoming films?

It just happened. I have nothing against top directors. If these so called top commercial directors have good scripts, I will definitely do films with them.

What is Thoranai all about?

The story of Thoranai is about a guy who comes to a city in search of his brother. It may sound very clichéd but the screenplay and presentation will be the highlights. I tried doing comedy in Thamarabharini and Malaikottai and now, in this film, I am doing a full length comedy role. You will see a new dimension to my acting. I liked to be called an entertainer not an actor. Thoranai will be my first summer release and it will be a film for the entire family. I don’t want to speak more about it, as the film is getting ready for release on May 21. Let the film speak for itself.

Film making cannot be done single handedly; it nee

hi friends,

G.K Films corporations presents Vishal-Shriya starrer ‘Thoranai, directed by Saba Ayyappan.
‘Thoranai’ hero Vishal shared his view about the movie with media members said ‘this is my eighth movie. I consider this film as a test coz the first time I am doing comedy hero role. I believe that if I succeed as comedy hero then my success as complete actor is for sure. The story portrays me in a character of younger brother who goes in search of his elder brother from village to Chennai city. I do share my ideas with directors.

It doesn’t mean that I am interfering its my suggestion for movie’s betterment. Cinema comprises of team work by thousands of people from producer to light men. Everyone must contribute their fullest. Sathyam is my favorite movie. There was a rumor saying that I slapped director Ayyappan. Nothing like that happened and I don’t take people for granted’ said ‘Thimiru’ actor.
Director Saba Ayyappan was also present during this interview.

The movie is releasing in Tamil as ‘Thoranai’ and Telugu as ‘Pista’ on 21st of May.
