hi friends,
he actor talks to TOI about his next film Thoranai, co-stars and director .
Vishal’s got every reason to sport a smile. His next film Thoranai, which is being simultaneously made in Telugu as Pistha, is progressing well and all set to hit the screens shortly.
Informs the star, “Thoranai was supposed to be released on May Day. But now, we have decided to release the film in the second week of May as some more work is pending.”
The film will mark a series of firsts for Vishal. The actor will be seen in action with Prakashraj, considered to be one of India’s finest actors, for the first time.
Discloses the star, “I was really scared on day one as I had to challenge Prakashraj, a person I admire and look up to, in a scene. I kept telling myself that I had to be composed. Others wouldn’t have noticed but I was petrified. I won’t forget that shot for the rest of my life. I wasn’t this scared even when I acted for the first time in Chellame. However, I got over my fear as shooting progressed.”
Also, Vishal will be seen doing full-fledged comedy for the first time. “I’ve paired up with Santhanam for the first time. I first started doing comedy
in Thamirabharani. I then did a little more in Malaikottai. Now, I’ve graduated to the next level in this film. Also, usually, I’m the one who carries an aruval (sickle) in my movies, but in this film, I’ve seen the heroine, Shriya, hold a sickle. A refreshing change indeed,” he laughs.
He continues, “Shriya’s a brat. But when it comes to work, she’s a super-professional. I was impressed with the amount of information she had on filmmaking
. It’s really nice to know that your co-star knows so much. In fact, she came up with valid suggestions which we made use of in the film.”
Shriya and Vishal are known to be good friends and friends play pranks on one another. Did she play any on him? “Oh yes. She was in Bombay on April first but she said she was outside my office and wanted me to come and fetch her. She said that she was here because she needed to discuss her costumes with me. The reason I believed her was because she said she was able to see my hoarding outside my office. I went out and stood on the street for five minutes before realising that I had been fooled. It was my sister-in-law who let the cat out of the bag. Actually, I didn’t know then that my sister-in-law Shreya too was part of this plan to fool me.”
Thoranai is being directed by Aiyappan, formerly an assistant to director Bhoopathy Pandian.
“I’ve known Aiyyappan from the time I did Malaikottai. His script was the best among the 40 that I heard,” he says and adds, “The story is about a boy who comes to the city in search of his long-lost brother. What happens to him forms the rest of the story. But more than the story, the reason I agreed to do this film was its screenplay. Aiyappan’s screenplay is very interesting and will keep the viewers engrossed.” The movie’s music has been composed by Mani Sharma and is considered to be one of its highlights.
Says Vishal, “We plan to release the audio of the movie on April 15.”
The star ends by stating what he thinks Thoranai will be. “It will be a lovely entertainer. People love to see me in these kind of movies. This movie
will meet everybody’s requirements,” he says with an air of certainty.
